Tour de Georgia 2008

Discussing the merits of Waffle House with Will Frischkorn. Like me, Will enjoys the All-Star platter.

I attended the Tour de Georgia press conference this past Wednesday and the interesting news is the team time trial. There hasn’t been a TTT in the States since the Tour de Trump days. It’s going to be held on motor speedway, so the roads will be glassy smooth. Expect fast times on that day. And as you probably know it starts in Tybee Island and goes to Savannah. Of course Brasstown Bald is on the route. Some of you might know this, but my photo was in Pro Cycling for I think their January issue. Well I just noticed that I’ve also made the the VeloNews website! JoE Silva who does work for both us and VeloNews was in attendance and snapping photos. I’m wearing my safety orange Waffle House cap in the background of his shot with Will Frischkorn and Cesar Grajales. Now if I can get VeloNews to name my blog as their “Site of the Day”….

The state of Georgia is pumped about the Tour. The press conference was in the following day’s newspaper and not buried in the back. The towns that got flicked from the 2008 route are a bit bitter as they realize the economic importance of having the Tour de Georgia roll through their hamlet. The state realized that the first five years was going to be tough, but speaking to a few higher-ups the other nights, they believe that the Tour de Georgia has a secure future.
