Rahsaan Bahati has had a busy off-season. Without a contract for 2010, Bahati was contemplating retirement. He started a sports management company which then morphed into an opportunity to start the Bahati Foundation whose mission is to help inner city kids have an opportunity for a better life. The foundation had been a dream of his for several years and now was the opportunity to put that dream into action.
In conjunction with the Bahati Foundation, Rahsaan founded the Bahati Foundation Professional Racing Team. This brand new team for 2010 is a registered UCI Continental squad looking to contest all the major American races, including the Tour of California. To bring his story to the masses, Bahati has partnered with Endure Media Group for a television series called, “Bahati, Out of Compton”, to document his rise from Compton to becoming an elite road racer. The program will follow the Bahati Foundation team through the 2010 racing season and will be broadcast this Fall on the Universal Sports channel. Bahati will also be lighting up the social media outlets to keep people informed.
In the very near future the Bahati Foundation will formally announce all the details of the program. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek and there are some significant companies involved. I’m always glad to see another professional cycling team come onto the racing scene, but one with such a good cause like Bahati’s makes it all the better.
